Genesee Academy is Re-Accredited!

April 28, 2017

Alsalam Alaikum

Let me start with exciting punch line and GREAT NEWS, Alhamdullilah, Genesee Academy is Re-Accredited by AdvancEd. We thank Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, first, and then the hard work of team led by Sr. Hana Sankari for their tireless several months of effort to prepare and organize this re-accreditation process. THANK YOU!
As many of you know earlier this week School accreditation team representing the AdvancEd organization visited our school as part of the re-accreditation protocol. During these two days, the AdvancedEd evaluation team members reviewed five different areas:

  1.       Our purpose and direction
  2.       Governance and leadership
  3.       Reaching and assessing for learning
  4.       Resources and support systems
  5.       Using results for continuous improvement

As part of their investigation they interviewed administration, teachers, support staff, parents, students, and board members, observed classrooms, interacted with students, and verified evidence and artefacts and evidences that support the implementation of our school mission and vision. They collected information and feedback, and compared them against the five AdvancED standards that represent the best practices of excellent schools.
Genesee Academy was recognized and praised for:

  1.       Family engagement
  2.       Commitment of school leadership and staff
  3.       Safe learning environment that supports challenging educational opportunities for all students
  4.       Autonomy that the school leadership and staff are given by the board to accomplish goals of the school.

Why is accreditation important you might ask: Accreditation is awarded to educational institutions that meet the highest standards of providing quality education. The process of earning accreditation status is quite rigorous. A team of highly qualified teachers and administrators from outside schools review every aspect of the school’s operations. This includes the curriculum, teachers, administration, school leadership, and financial viability. Students who attend a school accredited by AdvancEd can rest assured that the school is committed to raising student performance and held accountable for improving student learning on a continuous basis.

Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped in the numerous tasks involved in the accreditation process – the school principal, Mr. Tibi and the school accreditation committee led by Sr. Hana. Sankari and members:  Mr Jackson, Ms Pulwicz, Ms Thomas, and Mr Hanselman,  In addition, I would like to thank the teachers and support staff for their commitment to excellence, our students who represented the school in very eloquent way, our parents who exemplified the unity and support to our school mission, and last but not least our board members who dedicate their time and effort to make sure that the school is serving and preparing our students to be a successful Muslim role models in the future.

Here are some of the comments and feedback from NCA re-accreditation team:

“The level of commitment of all stakeholders is evident.  We heard the word commitment over and over again by all groups involved.”
“Teachers and staff are passionate about what they do and it shows”
“Having so many powerful practices is rare, everyone involved with the school should be proud.”
“If the school was closer to my home I would definitely register my own children here.”

Again, we Thank Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, for blessing our community with many bounties, and specifically the re-accreditation of our school.

Jazakum Allah Khairan.

Dear Parents,

We are excited to announce that Genesee Academy’s Early Learning Center has been awarded the Great Start to Readiness Program (GSRP) Grant through the Genesee Intermediate District (GISD) by the Michigan Department of Education.  The GSRP is a state funded program for four year old children with factors that may place them at risk like English as a second language, low income, parents’ education, etc…

The Michigan department of education has allotted 30% of its funds to non-profit organizations with high quality early childhood programs, who meet the state requirements to apply for the grant.  After two years of planning and implementation of requirements, GA’s ELC then submitted the application. We are excited to announce that we have been awarded the grant!!

We will use our current staff to teach the class and include Arabic as part of the program. I am responsible for overseeing the site. We are now accepting pre-applications for children, age four, to enroll in a FREE high quality preschool program

.  Please contact the main office for more information at (810) 250-7557 or email Marie at office@gaflint.org.
